Markus Lupfer was born in Kisslegg (State of Baden-Wurttemberg) in Germany in 1968. He initially studied fashion design in Tier before moving to London. He enrolled at the University of Westminster, in London where he studied from 1995-1997. In 1996, one year before his graduation, he started his own label.
He started with a very feminine line of womenswear. Markus Lupfer women look like they are in control. With superb cut and tailoring, he treads the line between being commercially successful and cutting-edge design. Known for his sculptural approach, he defines his style as "a modern translation of traditional elegance."
In 1998 he shifted to a hard-edge masculine menswear line which has also been very successful.
For Spring/Summer 2002, Lupfer presented a witty and inventive show. He included white suits and dresses in leather and crepe, that were pleated, ruched and embossed with rosettes and tiny eggs. Many of his outfits were combined with gypsy scarves and bohemian charms and tassels, giving them a unique look.

He showed double breasted pea coats in white and black, neat polo necks, short shifts, monochrome hues mixed with sleek pieces of leopart print. He added luxe oversized scarves, sleek flat boots and sweet beanies for a look that took the clean crisp mood of futurism and made it fit for luxury ski resorts.
