Benjamin Cho

Benjamin Cho was born in 1977 and raised in San Jose, California, USA. Right from his childhood, he has been sketching ideas in notebooks after studying his mother's Vogue magazines.

In 1998 Benjamin joined Parsons School of Design in New York, but dropped out as he had decided to strike out on his own immediately. He built up a loyal clientele almost at once.

His Spring/Summer 2002 collection was to have been shown in New York in September 2001 but got cancelled due to the terrorist attacks. So he took part in a special event sponsored by Vogue, held in the borrowed 7th Avenue showroom of Carolina Herrara. Giving bondage a look of sophistication and innocence, Cho criss-crossed ribbons to make lovely dresses. One dress from this collection is shown here.

Benjamin's collection for Autumn/Winter 2002 had a happy combination of technical skills and humour. It was held in the Japan Society auditorium with the backing of Shiseido. He showed just 16 garments which were clever dresses with circular inserts of gathered contrasting fabric and pretty ruched tops.

Benjamin Cho is an intensely focused young designer and we will see great designs from him in future.

Benjamin Cho's collection showed some very sharp clothes inspired by working-mens overalls, with strappy tops to add sex appeal.

Spring/Summer 2005

During New York Fashion Week in September 2004, Benjamin Cho presented his Spring collection. On the left is a faux fur white coat with a train over a white slip dress, from the show.

It was held on the terrace of 7th Avenue Studios, on a nice sunny day. Cho stayed true to his passion for detail by using suspender accessories on mini skirts and intricate detailing on tube dresses.

The ensembles were very body conscious, accentuating long legs, the 1940s styles were inspiration for many dresses.
