KATAYONE ADELI

Katayone Adeli was born in 1965. She is of Iranian descent and a Californian by upbringing.

She worked for the Los Angeles sportswear firm of Parallel, till 1997 when she launched her own label. In the beginning, her name was largely based on sophisticated jeans and snappy leathers. Her New York base is 234 West 39th Street, and she also has a showroom in Bond Street.

Spring 2002 : Adeli mixed fabrics and textures to create hip clothing that is her trademark. Tight and skinny low-slung trousers, side-by-side with soft drapey blouses. Cropped fitted leather jackets walked ahead of long chiffon dresses.

Her jeans are some of the best available, with double loops, slick eyelets, flap pockets, and saucy fit. Adeli knows her customer well, hip, downtown girls who appreciate the trends but would never dream of looking like over-eager fashion victims.

Among her clientele are Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore and Lucy Liu who Adeli dressed for their film "Charlie's Angels" and Christie Turlington and Tina Brown, who sat in the front row of her Spring 2002 show. Christie says "I am a big fan of Katayone's and adored the pretty strapless apron dress.

Katayone Adeli's perfect cut and hip clothes are taking Manhattan by storm.

Spring/Summer 2003 Ready-to-Wear

Katayone presented her Spring/Summer 2003 collection at the New York Fashion Week in September 2003. This is an outfit from that collection.

New York - February 2003

Adeli demonstrated her respect for the past with slouchy sack jackets, tunic tops, blouson minis and perfectly fitting dresses that used ladylike fabrics like silk failler, satin, lightweight wool, brocade and chiffon. Her few well-expressed ideas made a stronger impact than a cacophony of half-baked gimmicks.

The outfit on the right is from her Autumn/Winter 2003 collection.

Katayone shuttered her boutique in 2003 and took 3 years off, but in Autumn of 2006, she is back with her wonderfully fitted jeans and elegant clothes. New Yorkers are thrilled to have her back.
